On the occasion of Rabindranath Jayanti, I\u2019d like to give a speech about his life, his role in India\u2019s freedom struggle and his career achievements. Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti is the birth anniversary of one of the greatest personalities of India. It is observed annually on May 7th in the Gregorian calendar and on the ninth day of Boishakh in the Bengali calendar; however, this year it is on May 8th.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Rabindranath Tagore was a Bengali social reformer and best known for his notable contributions to literature, art, politics, and music. Born in Calcutta, he completed his schooling in England and then came back to his native country, India. His interest in literature resulted in the birth of a man who is still noted for his literary achievements. He has written many books, poems, novels, and songs during his life, for which he has received awards and prizes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His most well-known work was his poetry book Geetanjali, for which he got a Noble Prize in Literature in 1913. He was also well-known as a composer and music composer. He has written over 2000 songs, one of which is the current national anthem of India. Tagore was an educator and activist who founded \u2018Shantiniketan\u2019<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shantiniketan\u2019s goal was to bring together the eastern and western education systems. He was also quite interested in painting, and he beautifully portrayed Bengali culture in his work. He is also known as the \u2018Bard of Bengal\u2019 since he revolutionised Bengali art by rejecting rigid traditional conventions and challenging linguistic boundaries. He also contributed significantly to India\u2019s freedom struggle by infusing patriotism in his work. He took part in a protest against the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in 1919 as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, I feel honoured to speak on the occasion of Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti, a day that celebrates the extraordinary life and achievements of one of India\u2019s greatest icons.

Rabindranath Tagore was born on 7 May 1861 in Kolkata. He came from a cultured and artistic family, and from a very young age, he developed a deep love for literature and music. Tagore wrote his first poem at the age of eight and started publishing his works during his teenage years.

Tagore is best known for his poetry collection Gitanjali, for which he received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913. This made him the first Indian and the first Asian to receive this global honour. His writings explore themes of nature, spirituality, freedom, and human emotions.

Apart from being a poet, Tagore was a novelist, painter, playwright, educationist, and music composer. He wrote more than 2,000 songs, known today as Rabindra Sangeet. He also wrote the national anthems of India (Jana Gana Mana) and Bangladesh (Amar Shonar Bangla).
