1. Answer the following questions.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

(i) Why are people considered a resource?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Answer<\/strong>: People are considered as a resource because all the resources that are available in nature are used to their full potential only when developed and extracted by people because using their abilities, people turn them into resources. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

(ii) What are the causes for the uneven distribution of population in the world?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Answer<\/strong>: There are two factors because of which population distribution is uneven in the world: Geographical Factors and Social factors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Geographical factors<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Topography<\/strong>: People prefer living in plain areas rather than mountains because these areas are suitable for activities like farming, other service activities, manufacturing, etc. Mountain areas like the Alps, the Himalayas, etc have scarce populations while on the other hand, the Ganga plains are the most densely populated area in the world. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Water<\/strong>: people prefer living in areas that have easy access to fresh water that is required for drinking, washing clothes, etc. Hence, the river valleys are much more densely populated compared to the deserts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Social factors<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Social<\/strong>: Those areas that have better facilities in terms of education, housing, healthcare, etc are more densely populated. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Economic<\/strong>: Areas that have industries situated in them have more employment opportunities which brings people\u2019s settlement. These areas are much more populated. For Example: Osaka in Japan and Mumbai in India. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

(iii) The world population has grown very rapidly. Why?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Answer<\/strong>: The world population has grown rapidly because of the advancements made in technology and science. This has led to an increase in the development of healthcare facilities and food production which has led to a decrease in the death rate. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

(iv) Discuss the role of any two factors influencing population change.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Answer<\/strong>: The two factors that are influencing the population change are:- the death rate and the birth rate. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The death rate refers to the number of deaths per 1000 people while the birth rate refers to the number of births per 1000 people. The two factors are natural and cause population change. The difference between these two is known as the natural growth rate. When the birth rate is more than the death rate, that means the population is increasing and when the situation is opposite, it means the population is decreasing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

(v) What is meant by population composition?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Answer<\/strong>: The population composition helps us identify the number of males and females in a population. It also answers questions like how educated they are, what age group they belong to, what are their incomes, their healthcare conditions, etc. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

(vi) What are population pyramids? How do they help in understanding the population of a country?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Answer<\/strong>: Population pyramid refers to the graphical representation that is used to study the composition of the population of a country. It shows various information like the percentage of the total population subdivided into males and females, the number of dependents in a country, various age groups, etc. When the population of a country has high birth and death rates, the population pyramid is broad at the base and narrow towards the top. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
