The full form of DAY-NULM is Deen Dayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihood Mission. India is a vast nation with the world\u2019s highest population, but millions of people living in urban India still face challenges like poverty<\/strong><\/a>, lack of employment opportunities and inadequate access to essential services. Thus to address these struggles, the Government of India launched the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana- National Urban Livelihood Mission (DAY-NULM).<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

What is DAY-NULM?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

DAY-NULM is a flagship initiative dedicated to the urban poor households of India, It is a scheme which was launched by restructuring the Swarna Jayanti Shahri Rozgar Yojana by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation (MoHUPA), Government of India. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The scheme has been effective since 24th September 203 in all the district headquarters and with all the cities having a population of more than or equal to 1 Lakh. The scheme is designed to help in providing financial credit and impart skills to the urban poor population to enhance their livelihood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What are the Benefits of DAY-NULM?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The scheme has several key components and benefits that work in tandem to achieve the set objectives. Some of them are –  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Establishment of Self-Help Groups (SHGs)<\/strong> – One of the components and benefits of the mission is to form SHGs<\/strong><\/a> where members come together to save money, access loans and support each other financially.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

Skill Development and Training<\/strong> – DAY-NULM recognizes the importance of skills in the modern economy and is offering various skill development and training programs<\/strong> like beauty care, food processing, tailoring and construction.       1. Urban Street Vendors Scheme<\/strong> – The scheme also acknowledged the significant contribution of street vendors to the Urban economy.         1. Support for Urban Homeless<\/strong> – The plight of the urban homeless is one of the main reasons for rolling out the scheme. It focuses on rehabilitation and skill development for the homeless, helping them with shelter, food and healthcare.             Why is DAY-NULM Required?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

            According to the census of India 2011, the urban population has increased to 31% from the 2001 census and has reached 377 million, according to a report, nearly 92 per cent of the total working people worked in the informal sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            The mission caters to the needs of the workforce of the informal sector and ensures security for them. As most of the poor population are also involved in the informal economy, there lies a consistent challenge to their existence. Thus to safeguard their rights and dignity, the scheme helps them in earning their bread and butter by providing them the assistance of loans and by conducting developmental programs.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

              To make sure that homeless people have access to basic entitlements such as social security pensions, PDS, ICDS, feeding programs, drinking water, sanitation, identity, financial inclusion, and school admission, as well as affordable housing.<\/p> <\/div>

              What is the age limit for NULM?<\/strong>

              It is recommended that individuals who wish to establish a group enterprise apply through community organizations such as SHG\/ALF established under SJSRY\/NULM. All members of the group enterprise must be at least 18 years old when applying for a bank loan.<\/p> <\/div>

              What is the loan amount for NULM?<\/strong>

              Each member of the group is eligible for a maximum loan amount of Rs. 2 Lakh, or the group as a whole can apply for up to Rs. 10 Lakh, whichever is lower.<\/p> <\/div> <\/div>\n\n\n\n
