Police Commemoration Day is also known as Police Martyr\u2019s Day in India. It is celebrated on 21 October<\/strong> every year. This day is celebrated in honour of the sacrifice of 10 CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) men in the Chinese attack that happened in 1959. In 1959, the CRPF<\/strong><\/a> officers were defending our country from the Chinese attack, during which 10 police officers were shot dead near Ladakh\u2019s Hot Spring Area, and they lost their lives in the line of duty. Police Commemoration Day 2023: History<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The history of this day is very breaking because on this day India lost 10 CRPF personnel in the line of duty. On 20 October 1959, due to extreme tension at the Indo-Tibet border in Hot Spring in Aksai Chin in Ladakh located between 15,000 ft and 16,000 ft above the sea level, three separate units of the 3rd battalion were manned by the Indian Police. The CRPF personnel deployed at the border were guarding the Indo-Tibet border from the Chinese attack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On 21 October 1959, out of the three units, 2 units returned back. In search of the missing units (Porter and 2 police constables), CRPF assigned a new unit the task of finding the missing police personnel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When the CRPF reached a small hill, they witnessed firing from the other side in which 10 CRPF officers were shot dead on duty. The bodies of the CRPF officers were returned back to the Indian Police Force after a month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thus, to honour the sacrifice of the police force, the Annual Conference of Inspectors General of Police of States and Union Territories<\/strong> passed a resolution to celebrate 21 October as the Police Commemoration Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
