Every year India celebrates 5 September as Teachers’ Day. It aims to honour the legacy of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the second President of India. He was a renowned scholar, philosopher, and above all, an advocate of education. Unfortunately, he passed away on April 17, 1975. History of Teacher\u2019s Day<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As mentioned earlier, India celebrates 5 September as Teachers’ Day. This important day marks the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who served as both India’s first vice president and second president. Moreover, Radhakrishnan’s political career was marked by several significant positions, including his tenure as the Indian Ambassador to the Soviet Union from 1949 to 1952. He served as the Vice President of India from 1952 to 1962 before being elected as the President. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The origin of Teacher’s Day celebrations in India has a very fascinating history. Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan’s students once visited his home to wish him a happy birthday. Those innocent youngsters also wanted to celebrate Dr Radhakrishnan’s birthday and asked him for his permission out of respect for him. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While rejecting any special treatment, Radhakrishnan advised the students to observe the day as Teachers’ Day to appreciate their contribution to society. Since then, Teacher\u2019s Day has been observed nationally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
