History of Holi <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Puranas are the origin of the Holi festival’s illustrious past.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Long ago, in the Purana book, Hiranyakashipu, the evil king of the asuras, aquired five magical abilities. He cannot be killed by a person or an animal, during the day or the night, by astrology or shastra, inside or outside, and lastly, neither on land, in the water, or the air. But his Vishnu-following son Prahlada opposed his hegemony. King Hiranyakashipu was outraged by his actions and punished him, but it was ineffective. Finally, Prahlada was duped by his wicked aunt Holika into joining her on a pyre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While Holika burned to ashes, Prahlada was protected from the flames by a fire-resistant cloak. Then, at dusk (neither day nor night, neither indoors nor outdoors, nor on land, water, or in the air), Lord Vishnu manifested as Narasimha, a half-lion, half-human; he then disembowelled the king with his lion claws (not according to Astra or Shastra).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The significance of Holi lies in the triumph of good over evil, even though the festival’s legends vary from region to region in the nation. It signals the arrival of spring and the end of winter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
