Hitler’s father, Alois, had two wives before marrying Klara Pölzl. Only Adolf and his sister Paula survived childhood from their six children.

Despite being associated with Germany, Hitler was born in Braunau am Inn, Austria. He identified more with Germany due to his schooling and the political climate.

Alois sent Hitler to a strict school he hated. He received poor grades and frequent beatings from his father. His mother offered little protection.

He used to sell paintings to fight his poverty. He even lived in a homeless shelter at one point. Inherited money in 1913 allowed him to move to Munich.

Despite persecuting homosexuals later, Hitler initially ignored the prominent gay members of the SA, like its leader Ernst Röhm, prioritizing their usefulness over their sexuality. Even when Röhm’s homosexuality became public, Hitler remained supportive. However, both Röhm and his deputy Heines were later killed during the Night of the Long Knives.
