Holika Dahan is a prelude to the festival of colour. As we are going to celebrate this festival of colour, let us learn about Holika.

Holika was the sister of Hiranyakashyap, a vengeful king who was against Lord Vishnu.

One day, Prahlad, son of Hirankashyap was seen worshipping Lord Vishnu. This sight angered the king.

To teach a lesson to Prahlad, Hirankashyap asked Holika to take Prahlad into the flames of a yagya.

Prahlad sat in the lap of Holika, but to everyone's surprise he remained unscathed. Whereas, Holika was charred by flames.

Prahlad was protected by Lord Vishnu and Holika was burnt because of Lord Vishnu's wrath.

From that day onwards, Holika is burnt before Holi to celebrate the triumph of good over evil.

With this note, celebrate the good in lives with the festival of colours.

Happy Holi!!
