Maulana Abul Kalam Azad was the first education minister of independent India, who served from 15 August 1947 to 2 February 1958.
He played a vital role in forming the education system of India post independence.
National Education Day of India is celebrated on 11 November (his birthday) every year in India.
Surprisingly, Azad never received formal education. He was self-taught in English and got home schooled by his father.
