Many schools struggle with helping students develop basic values. To implement the same, a powerful step was taken by the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). They have launched a unique diploma program in value education (DPVE) starting from this year. Read on to know more about the Value Education Program by IGNOU!
Value Education Program by IGNOU
This program has been created to deliver values and ethics among students. The following statement was given by IGNOU on the launch of the value education course.
“The program aims to inculcate positive values in teachers, professionals, students, parents, and the community by integrating values in their transactional process of teaching and learning,”
The main target audience was mostly elementary school teachers but the course is also open to professionals, parents, students, and any eligible candidate in the community. It is open also for NGOs, government servants, and civil society organizations. The diploma course will generate awareness and interest for inculcating positive values in society.
This Value Education Program by IGNOU has a duration of one year for eligible students with a higher secondary (10+2) pass certificate can apply. The diploma course will be offered both in the January and July admission cycles with a fee of INR 4000. DPVE Syllabus
The course will be coordinated by Dr. Grace Don Nemching and Prof. BK Pattanaik. The syllabus for the Diploma in Value Education (DPVE) comprises 32 credits including:
- Overview and Perspectives of Values (4 credits)
- Socio-Psychological Basis (4 credits)
- Pedagogy of Values (4 credits)
- Application, Support Skills, and Activities (4 credits)
- Life Skills Education ( 8 credits)
- Human Rights in India ( 8 credits)
