UGC Scholarships for Girls
The UGC scholarships majorly provide financial aid for college and university level studies. The UGC has recently launched the Postgraduate Indira Gandhi Scholarship Scheme for Single Girl Child and the scholarship scheme 2021-22 is especially for girls who are the only girl child in the family. Apart from this, the Swami Vivekananda Single Girl Child Scholarship for Research in Social Sciences is another scholarship by UGC for girls.

Eligibility for UGC Scholarship for Girls
|National Fellowship for Scheduled Caste Students||All those candidates who have completed their post graduation and have got admission in an M.Phil/ Ph.D course can apply for this fellowship. This fellowship is also open to transgender candidates.|
|National Fellowship for Higher Education of ST Students||Must have post-graduate degree and must be registered in MPhil or PhD course|
|National Fellowship for Persons with Disabilities||All students with disabilities who are enrolled in an M.Phil or PhD program at any university or academic institution|
|National Fellowship for OBC Candidate||All those candidates are eligible who have completed their post-graduation and have been registered in a PhD or M.Phil course. Candidates who identify themselves as transgender can also apply for this fellowship|
|Maulana Azad National Fellowship for Minority Students||All candidates who belong to minority communities such as Buddhists, Sikhs, Muslims, Christians, Jain and Parsis can apply for this fellowship.
The student has to be enrolled in a full-time regular M.Phil/ P.hD program.
The minimum marks obtained by students must be 50% post-graduation.
Applicants who are transgender can also apply for this fellowship.
|Post-Doctoral Fellowship to Women Candidates||This fellowship is for unemployed women and hold a PhD degree.
The applicant’s age should be less than 55 years with a minimum mark of 55% in UG and 60% at PG level.
Transgender students can also apply for this fellowship.
|Post-Doctoral Fellowship to SC/ST Candidates||The fellowship is avaialable for PhD holders who are unemployed. The Age limit for women is 55. The applicant must have scored atleast 50% in UG and 55% in PG.|
|Dr. S. Radharkrishnan Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Humanities and Social Sciences||For Unemployed Researches with age less than 40 years. The minimum percentage in UG should be 55% and PG is 60%.|
|Dr. D. S. Kothari Postdoctoral Fellowship Scheme||For PhD holders in the Science Field with age limit of 35 years. Teachers can also apply|
|Emeritus Fellowship||Highly qualified, superannuated and experienced teachers of recognised institutions. Must have contributed to their service career with research and published work.|

Scholarship for Research in Social Sciences
|The scholarship is available for a single female child in the family.
The candidate must be pursuing a regular, full-time PhD program in Social Sciences at a recognized Indian Institution.
The maximum age limit for applicants in a general category is 40 years and for candidates who belong to SC/ST/OBC and PwD. is 45 years.
The students pursuing their PhD through distance education are not eligible.
|Special Scholarship Scheme Ishan Uday for NER||This scholarship is only valid for students having domicile from North Eastern Region and have completed their class 12th.
Student’s family income should not exceed 4.5 LPA and should have admission to one of the recognized universities in a technical, professional, or general course.
|Post Graduate Indira Gandhi Scholarship
Scheme for Single Girl Child
|Girl students who are 30 years of age or below are eligible for the scholarship.The candidate should be the only female child of the family.
The candidate should have taken admission in the first year of her full-time PG course at a recognized university.
|Post Graduate Merit Scholarship for University Rank Holder||The student should have a bachelors degree in any one of the following courses:
This grant is given to students who have an age less than 30 years when taking admission in the Postgraduate course. The student should have a minimum of 60% in graduation. They should also hold either first or second rank in their undergraduate degree and be a part of a regular master’s degree from a recognized university.
|Post Graduate Scholarships for Professional Courses for SC/ST Candidates||This scholarship is open for candidates who are in the first year of their professional course at the postgraduate level.
The course in which the candidate is enrolled must be approved by a regulatory body such as the Bar Council of India, RCI, PCI, DCI, NCTIS, MCI, Forensic Regulatory, INC and ICAR.

|Dr. D. S. Kothari Postdoctoral Fellowship Scheme||Fellowship of INR 43,400, INR 45,000 and INR 46,500 for first, second and third year respectively.Contingency grant of INR 1 Lakh per annum.|
|Emeritus Fellowship||INR 31,000 per month honorarium for 2 years while a contingency of INR 50,000 per annum|
|Swami Vivekananda Single Girl Child Scholarship for Research in Social Sciences||Fellowship of 25,000 INR every month for the initial 2 years and 28,000 INR per month for the remaining time period.
A grant of 10,000 INR each year for the initial 2 years and 20,500 INR each year for the remaining time period.
A special amount of 2,000 INR/month which includes escort and reader assistance for persons with disabilities.

It is important to note that students must apply for the UGC scholarships for girls before 30 October 2021. The last date for application verification is 15 November 2021. Students can follow the steps to apply for the scholarship they are eligible for:
- Candidates must apply on the official website: https://scholarships.gov.in/ or the UGC website https://www.ugc.ac.in/ugc_schemes/
- For registration, candidates must go through the guidelines carefully and press the continue option.
- After filling in the necessary information, applicants can log in to the portal.
Here are the documents required to apply for UGC scholarships for girls:
- The income certificates and caste certificates must be provided.
- The proof of admission and necessary transcripts must be provided.
- The bank details of the institution and students.
- One passport size photograph, signature, and the Identity card of the student.
- An affidavit of Rs 50 stamp paper from the girl’s side which is attested by the Magistrate of the Gazetted Officer. It should mention that the girl is the only female child in the family.
UGC Scholarship- Results
The UGC Scholarship result is declared after several scrutiny processes. Scholarships are given to candidates who qualify for it and pass the verification. However, UGC scholarships are given after the recommendation from the Expert Committee set up by the UGC after conducting an interview with the applicant.
All the details including student names are declared on the UGC website so you should regularly check it for any updates after applying for the scholarship.
UGC Scholarships are directly added to your bank account using Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). It is mandatory for you to own a personal bank account at a national bank in order to receive scholarship or fellowship.
UGC conducts a specific procedure for monitoring scholarships and their renewal. The head of the department (HoD) is responsible for monitoring the performance of the candidate studying under them.
- The student must submit a yearly progress report to their respective bank’s branch duly signed by the HoD and Registrar of the University of Principal of the College or Head of the Institution for the renewal of a scholarship.
- If any student fails to maintain the satisfactory performance or is not promoted to the next class, the scholarship may get terminated or cancelled.
