About SSB

Deemed to be one of the most dominant guarding forces of the nation, SSB falls directly under the administrative control of the Ministry of Home Affairs (since Jan 2001) and comes under one of the seven ‘Central Armed Police Forces’ (India). 

SSB was initially declared as the ‘Lead Intelligence Agency’ for the Indo-Nepal Border in June 2001 and the Indo-Bhutan border in March 2004. The body was remunerated with the President’s colours in March 2004 for playing a pivotal role in national security.

SSB Recruitment Exam Overview 2022

Candidates aspiring to work as Assistant Commandants in the prestigious body are required to give the ‘Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) recruitment exam( It is a national-level exam that is held annually).   Recruitment for the aforementioned post is predominantly conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

SSB Salary 2022

Candidates aspiring to work as Assistant Commandants in SSB are in for a ride. This is because the body has announced an increment in the wage division for the mentioned position after the 7th pay commission.

SSB Exam Pattern 2022

Aspirants prospecting to work for the SSB are required to qualify for the SSB exam conducted by CAPF UPSC. Given that the entire recruitment process can seem interminable at times, it is recommended that candidates prepare themselves according to the set pattern (released by UPSC) each year. The process can be segregated into the following stages: 

• CAPF written exam
• Physical Efficiency Test & Medical Standards Test
• Interview/ Personality Test

Applicants performing well in all of the aforementioned levels, and creating a decent merit score will be deemed eligible to be recruited into the Forces.

The questionnaire for the  ‘General ability’ section of the written examination is objectively based. In this case, each incorrect answer will cost the candidate one-third negative marking.  And based on the marks scored by the candidates in their written exam and interview, the final merit list will be calculated.

Now, apart from being academically eligible for the examination, one needs to be physically fit as well.  Coming to the physical exam, candidates must qualify for the ‘Physical Efficiency Test’ (PET) and the Medical Standards Test.  For SSB, the physical proficiency test entails:

SSB Eligibility Criteria 2022

Candidates hoping to work as CAPF Assistant Commandants are required to satiate a certain criteria list declared by the ‘Union Public Service Commission’.

Tattoo clause	Tattoos are not allowed (except the religious ones).
