Early Life and Childhood

Shawn Mendes (Shawn Peter Raul Mendes) was born on August 8, 1998, in Ontario. He also has a younger sister, Aaliyah. Shawn Mendes completed his graduation from Pine Ridge secondary school in June 2016. There he played soccer, ice hockey, and practised acting lessons. He was keen on music and learning guitar from a very young age. 

Mendes performed at his school and kept on making progress with his skills. He made small videos of him playing guitar and singing. Unsure of the results, he posted them on an app called Vines. He continued doing that for almost a year before finally receiving some attention. That’s what he did exactly along with his graduation days.

Early Struggles 

Shawn Mendes started his career quite early in life. He played the guitar and learnt it through YouTube videos at the age of 14, while he was still in secondary school. He posted several YouTube videos and started getting famous on an app called Vine in 2013. It was through his unique music and voice that the big music brands noticed him and gave him the opportunity to produce his own album!

Career Breakthrough

By 2014, he was the third most followed musician on this Vine app. He signed officially to Island Records in 2014 after winning Ryan Seacrest’s best cover song contest. Soon he released his first single “Life Of The Party” in 2014. 

He is the youngest debutant in the top 25 on the US billboard hot hundred. He was also listed on the 25 most influential teams of 2014 by Time magazine. He was also listed in the 30 most influential teens of 2015 when he topped the billboard 200 with his song Stitches. Shawn Mendes’ album called Handwritten was released in the year 2015. The album was a big hit and certified as platinum. He became the youngest artist to debut at number one after Justin Bieber.
