Steel Authority of India Limited is an Indian government-backed company for steel-making and was the first Maharatna in the country under Central Public Sector Enterprises.
SAIL produces iron and steel at 5 different integrated plants, of which three are special steel plants which are located in the central and eastern regions of India, and are located close to the availability of raw materials. The Five integrated steel plants of SAIL are:
- Bhilai, Chattisgarh
- Rourkela, Odisha
- Durgapur, West Bengal
- Bokaro, Jharkhand

Wide range of steel products are manufactured and sold by SAIL. About 65% of SAIL’s equity is owned by the Indian government which has voting power over the company.

SAIL Exam Eligibility
Before applying for the SAIL exam, candidates have to fulfill all the eligibility conditions as prescribed in the notification. Eligibility varies depending on the job type:

Other eligibility Criteria-
- Candidates who have no experience as an apprentice must fulfill the eligibility conditions for this role.
- Candidates with NCVT certificates are eligible for these roles.
- Minimum age of the candidate should be 18 years.
- 10 & 12th standard certificates.
- Age relaxation- for SC/ST candidates- 5 years
- For PWD candidates- 10 years

SAIL Exam: Selection Process
The Selection process depends on the post for which you have applied for:

Nurse, | There will be a walk-in interview and for the first 18 months, the candidate will be appointed at Durgapur Steel Plant. |
GDMO & Specialist | There will be a walk-in interview for eligible candidates with one-year contractual services, and the term may or may not be extended. |
Technician Apprentice | A merit list will be released depending on the highest marks in the last exam in prescribed academics. |
The basic selection process will include the following steps-
- Written Exam
- Group Discussion (GD)
- Technical Interview
- HR Interview
- Document Verification
The time period between these processes will take 2-3 months. So candidates are advised to prepare themselves thoroughly.
SAIL Exam: Exam Pattern
Aspirants must start their exam preparation with the help of the SAIL exam pattern and syllabus:
- The exam pattern includes details about the exam, marking scheme, duration of exam, no.of questions in the exam, about topics involved, etc.
- The duration of the exam is 90 minutes.
- Exam consists of objective-type questions, where one question carries one mark.

SAIL Exam: Admit Card
Admit Card for the exam will be released by the officials of SAIL on the website itself.
By using your login ID, candidates have to download their respective admit cards.
Admit card is mandatory for the aspirants to bring with them while appearing for the exam. And candidates who do not have their admit card, will not be allowed to appear for the exam.
SAIL Exam: Results
The results of the SAIL exam will be released on the official portal of the company. Those candidates who had appeared for the exam have to login using their valid credentials like
Date of Birth, registration number, etc to download/ check their results.
If you have cleared the exam, then after some days you will receive an email/ SMS from the SAIL regarding the next step of the recruitment process which will be Group Discussion (GD).
