Robin Li

Born in 1968, Robin Li studied information management at Peking University in 1991. He is a software engineer, a billionaire entrepreneur and a Peking University notable alumni. He is the co-founder and the CEO of a popular search engine called Baidu. He has gained worldwide recognition for being a popular business leader. In 2006, Robin Li was named 2006’s “World’s Best Business Leader” by the renowned American Business Weekly. His net worth is US$14.7 billion as of April 2021.

Hou Yifan

Born in 1994, Hou Yifan pursued a BA in International Relations from Peking University in 2018. Hou Yifan is a Chinese chess grandmaster. She has been a four-time Women’s World Chess Champion and the second highest-rated female player of all time. At the early age of 14, Hou Yifan became the youngest ever female player to qualify for the title of grandmaster and the youngest ever female to win the Women’s World Chess Championship at the age of 16. 

Yitang Zhang

Born in 1955, Yitang Zhang is an alumnus of Peking University who studied BA and MA from 1982-1984. He is a well-known mathematician in the area of Number Theory. Yitang Zhang is best known for establishing the existence of an infinitely repeatable prime 2-tuple.  He has been awarded various prestigious awards such as Ostrowski Prize, 2013, Cole Prize, 2014, Rolf Schock Prize,2014, MacArthur Fellowship, 2014, and Academia Sinica Fellow, 2014.

Tu Youyou

Born in 1930, Tou Youyou attended Peking University Medical School from 1951 to 1955. Tu Youyou is a famous Chinese pharmaceutical chemist and malariologist who is best known for discovering artemisinin and dihydroartemisinin. Dihydroartemisinin is a drug used to treat malaria. This discovery of Tu Youyou saved millions of lives in South China, Southeast Asia, Africa, and South America from malaria. Tu Youyou has been awarded with the Lasker-DeBakey Clinical Medical Research Award (2011), Warren Alpert Foundation Prize (2015), Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine (2015), Highest Science and Technology Award, China (2016) and the Medal of the Republic, China (2019). Tu Youyou is the first ever female of the People’s Republic of China to receive a Nobel Prize in any category. 

Li Keqiang

Born in 1955, Li Keqiang obtained his LLB degree from the school of law at Peking University and did his PhD in economics in the year 1995. Li Keqiang is a notable Chinese politician and is the current Premier of China. 

Qian Sanqiang

Born in 1913, Qian Sanqiang attended Peking University. He was a nuclear physicist and was among the leading scientists of the Two Bombs, One Satellite program. He has made a great contribution to establishing nuclear science in China. He is known as the “Father of China’s Atomic Bomb” due to his vital role and contribution in the development of China’s nuclear industry and nuclear weapons program. Qian Sanqiang died in June, 1992.
