“Healing is an ongoing process. I am healing one breath at a time”.
Natasha was born on 14th September 1997 in Maharashtra. Not much is known about her family and friends. Her early life has been nothing short of a harrowing ride in hell. Losing her mother at 3, then being abused during her childhood, having an accident which got her into bed rest due to an injured knee, making her lose on dancing as a hobby. If all this was not enough, another blow was her breakup with her long time boyfriend. Going through so much is a lot for anyone to take. Stress, anxiety, self-hatred, guilt and depression were constant companions in her life until she found her passion for yoga. She said in an interview – “The void inside me kept growing.” “Yoga helped me in ways I couldn’t imagine” since “I’ve had depression and anxiety for the longest time” she further added about meditation that “It made me so much aware of my own thought process” and helped in “altering my brain mechanics for the better.”
Natasha Noel has always been very open about the issues she had during her childhood and the time it took for her to get comfortable with her body. Later on in life, when she enrolled herself in The Yoga Institute at Santa Cruz and then went on to learn Ashtanga Vinyasa at Mysore, she gave herself a second chance and became open to new ideas. Yoga, dance and meditation helped her get a new outlook and approach towards life. It uplifted her from her darkest moments. Today she is one of the most popular and influential yoga instructors we have.
“I am dyslexic and I write, I have asthma and I run and I am a social media influencer. I talk about things that no one wants to listen
Claiming to be an uplifter of humans and a breaker of stereotypes on her Instagram profile, Natasha Noel is a Josh Talks and TEDx speaker. She has also been awarded the silver button on YouTube. She has used her platform to talk about various topics like feminism, mental wellbeing, body positivity and gender equality. When asked to talk about what feminism is to her, she answered – “Feminism to me is allowing every human to reach their fullest potential. Feminism is empowering every child and woman to own her mind, body, intellect without second-guessing. It’s allowing women to take control of their lives and be the woman they are supposed to be and be whatever definition of feminine is for them.”
She also believes that the concept of gender roles is “absolute nonsense” because patriarchy makes these arbitrary rules. She quoted – “Do not ever tell her that she should or should not do something because she is a girl. ‘Because you are a girl’ is never a reason for anything. Ever.”- Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie” on her Instagram account once as a caption under a picture sporting a completely shaven head. Natasha Noel believes children, despite their gender, should be taught to be independent human beings who believe in their abilities. And this she says, “starts at home”.
Natasha Noel feels that introspection holds a lot of importance in her life. Noel says that looking at yourself in the mirror and saying I love you to yourself helps people accept themselves the way they are. She believes that talking to herself and coaxing herself, trying to rationalise her fears, has been of utmost help and importance in her life. She feels that she has been able to face her fears because of it.
