1972 – Prithviraj Kapoor was an Indian actor, film producer, director, writer and politician who started his career in the silent era of Hindi cinema. He passed away on this day.

1987 – Chaudhary Charan Singh served as the 5th Prime Minister of India between 28 July 1979 and 14 January 1980. Former Prime Minister of India Chaudhary Charan Singh died on 29 May.

1886- On this day, John Pemberton who was an American pharmacist and Confederate States Army veteran who is best known as the inventor of Coca-Cola begins to advertise Coca-Cola. 

1919-  Albert Einstein’s Theory of Relativity, that when light passes a large body, gravity will bend the rays confirmed by Arthur Eddington’s expedition to photograph a solar eclipse on the island of Principe, West Africa.

1942- According to Guinness World Records, Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas” (1942) as performed by Bing Crosby is the best-selling single worldwide, with estimated sales of over 50 million copies.

1987- Micheal Jackson pop star makes a bid to buy the bones of Joseph Merrick, popularly known as the “Elephant Man”. In exchange for the remains, Jackson offers the London Hospital Medical College $500,000.

1989- In preparation for the 30th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square crackdown on Tuesday, a white statue of a woman has been relocated from a Hong Kong university to Victoria Park, the site of an annual candlelight vigil commemorating the incident.
