Eligibility Criteria for KVPY
In order to be eligible for the Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana, the candidates need to satisfy certain prerequisites. The basic eligibility criteria for any student to apply for the scheme is that they should be Indian nationals who are currently studying between class XIth to the first year of an undergraduate program. Tabulated below is the streamwise criteria:

SA (For class XI) | The students who are currently enrolled in class 11th and have secured a minimum score of 75% (65% for PWD/SC/ST) aggregate in Science and Mathematics in class 10th board examination can appear for the aptitude test. The KVPY fellowship will be awarded only if the applicants pursue an undergraduate course (BSc, BS, B.Math, B.Stat, Integrated MSc or MS) in basic sciences upon securing a minimum score of 60% (50% for PWD/SC/ST) aggregate in science subjects in their class 12th board examinations. |
SX(For class XII) | The students who are currently enrolled in class 12th and have scored a minimum of 70% (65% for PWD/SC/ST) aggregate in Science and Mathematics in their class 10th board examinations and are aspiring to pursue an undergraduate program (BSc, BS, B.Math, B.Stat, Integrated MSc or MS) in Basic Sciences namely Physics/Chemistry/Maths or Biology are eligible to appear for the aptitude test. The KVPY fellowship will be activated only when the shortlisted applicants pursue the aforementioned undergraduate courses and secure a minimum score of 60% (50% for PWD/SC/ST) aggregate in Science subjects and Mathematics in their class 12th board examinations. |
SB(For Undergraduate) | The students who are currently enrolled in the above mentioned undergraduate course specializing in basic sciences (Physics/Chemistry/Biology) and have secured a minimum score of 60% (50% for PWD/SC/ST) in their class 12th board examinations are eligible to appear for the aptitude test. The students need to score a minimum of 60% (50% for PWD/SC/ST) in their first-year final examination before the fellowship is awarded. |
KVPY Application Process
The application procedure for the Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana is done through online mode. Here is a step by step application procedure of the scheme:
- Visit the official website of KVPY fellowship program and proceed towards the application tab.
- Click on ‘Registration’ and fill all the details as applicable.
- After filling all the details, you will be directed to a payment gateway. While the application fees for General and OBC candidates is INR 1,000 for the PWD/SC/ST candidates, the application fee is Rs 500.
KVPY Selection Procedure
After satisfying the eligibility criteria, the applicants go through the two-tier procedure of selection for the Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana. The stages and their details have been summarised below:
- Aptitude Test: After thorough scrutiny of application forms and the academic records of the students, the candidates have to appear for an aptitude test. Applicants have the option of giving the exam in either Hindi or English languages. The objective of the KVPY is to access the candidate’s understanding and analytical skills. Thus, there is no specific syllabus prescribed for the test.
- Interview: Based on the performance in the aptitude test, the shortlisted candidates are called up for an interview which is also the final stage for selection.
Fellowship Amount under KVPY
