What is the IISER Aptitude Test?

IISER Aptitude Test is administered by the Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs) to provide candidates with admission to the five-year BS-MS dual degree programme offered by them. The candidate needs to qualify this exam in order to gain admission to IISER in Berhampur, Bhopal, Kolkata, Mohali, Pune, Thiruvananthapuram, or Tirupati on the basis of a candidate’s score in the IISER Entrance Exam (also known as the IISER Aptitude Test). Candidates who have completed their Science Stream in Class 12th are eligible to apply for the 2021 IISER entrance exam.

Eligibility Criteria

Here are the eligibility requirements that a candidate has to fulfill in order to sit for the IISER Entrance Exam –

Indian National who belong to –

  • Person of Indian Origin
  • Overseas Citizenship of India

Admission to IISER is undertaken via three channels, so a candidate needs to fulfill all the requirements under any channel –

  1. State and Central Boards (SCB) Channel
  2. Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY ) Channel
  3. Joint Entrance Examination of Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT-JEE) Channel

IISER Cut-off for State and Central Boards (SCB) Channel

Students who have cleared their 10+2 examinations in the Science Stream in 2020 or 2021 are eligible to apply for IISER. However, they must have obtained marks equal to or more than the cut-off on the basis of the board.

Candidates who wish to apply through the SCB Channel will have to appear for the IISER Entrance Exam 2021. Here is the cut-off for different boards (out of 500 marks).

Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY ) Channel

Applicants with a valid KVPY fellowship beginning from the 2020-21 academic session are eligible for IISER 2020 admissions. Such applicants do not, however, need to appear for the 2020 IISER entrance exam.

Joint Entrance Examination of Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT-JEE) Channel

Candidates in the general category who have earned a rank of 10,000 in the JEE Advanced Common Rank List (CRL) are eligible for IISER admissions. Similar to the admission process under the KVPY channel, however such candidates do not have to appear for the IISER entrance exam.

Note: The rank requirement for candidates belonging to OBCNC/SC/ST/PwD will be different.

IISER Entrance Exam Pattern

The official exam pattern for IISER entrance exam 2021 has been released and it includes all the details pertaining to the length, mode, kinds of questions asked, total number of questions, marking scheme, and more. Here is IISER Aptitude Test pattern

IISER Entrance Exam Admission Process 2021

Here are the steps to be followed to register for the IISER Entrance exam –

  • First, the candidate will have to fill the Entrance exam form by making the application fee payment which is INR 2000 for General category, OBCNC and INR 1000 for SC/ST, Kashmiri migrants, PwD.
  • Next, the candidate has to download the admit card for the IISER Entrance exam from the official website. The hall ticket will also have the details of the test centre.
