The first thing that comes to the minds of a BAMS Doctor is to start a self practising clinic. However, for a person to start clinical practice, it is a must for them to be well-versed with modern medicine and interpreting diagnostic tests. The graduates work under the senior practitioners for a year or two before setting up their own clinical practice.
With a motive to pursue a career in education and academics, it is essential for the BAMS Doctor to pursue a post-graduation degree. Apart from going for a degree in M.D., the doctor can go for other subjects such as Balaroga, Panchkarma etc. After acquiring the masters level degree, the BAMS Doctor can join private and government educational institutions as lecturers and demonstrators.

Eligibility Criteria for BAMS
- In order to enrol in the BAMS programme in Indian colleges and universities, aspirants must complete Class XII in the Science stream with PCB (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology) courses. In most situations, between 50% and 60% of students must be in Class XII to qualify for admission to a BAMS programme. However, a college or university’s regulation will determine how low a proportion must be. Some universities may also have a minimum age bar as their BAMS eligibility criteria.
- Candidates who meet the aforementioned eligibility requirements must take the National Eligibility Cumulation Entrance Test (NEET) and pass it in order to be considered. Centralized counselling based on the NEET merit list is how students get admitted to the BAMS programme.
Course Curriculum for BAMS
A bachelor’s degree in BAMS takes five years and six months to complete. The total length of the programme is 4.5 years, including one year of internship. Three professional courses lasting 1.5 years each make up the 4.5 years of academic study. The following topics are covered in the first professional course for students:
