1837- Hari Singh Nalwa who is remembered as the great Sikh warrior was called as the Chief of Army Staff of Maharaja Ranjit Singh.

1955- The renowned Imperial Bank of India nationalized.

1982-In Kolkata, the severe Bijon Setu massacre occurred on 30 April.

2012– Nearby the bank of river Brahmaputra, an overloaded ferry capsizes which led to the demise of at least 103 people.

2013- The legendary Bollywood actor Rajesh Khanna was declared “The First Superstar of Indian cinema” at the Dadasaheb Phalke Academy Awards.

1789: In the New York office, George Washington took the oath as the first president of the United States. 

1859: Charles Dickens the famous author published his first work “A Tale of Two Cities” in a famous literary periodical named “All the Year Round”. 

1897: British Physicist JJ Thomson announced the discovery of the electron which came as a revolution in the field of science as it opened up the doors to the study of atoms and their structure. This discovery was also awarded the Nobel prize for Physics.

1900: A renowned engineer John Luther Cassey Jones from the Illinois Central Railroad met with a train accident and died in Mississippi. His arduous efforts to save the lives of hundreds of passengers are still commemorated.

1968: The division of North Vietnamese troops in the village of Dai Do was attacked by the US marines. 

1975: when the South Vietnamese capital of Saigon fell under the communist forces, the war in Vietnam was ended. 

1980: A bunch of terrorists were seized in the Iranian embassy in London, United Kingdom. 

1993: Popular Tennis star Monica Seles was stabbed by an obsessed fan. Hence, she couldn’t play any tournament for over 2 years. 

1998: NATO was included in countries like Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic after expansion. All the nations formally admitted following NATO on its 50th-anniversary summit.
